In 2023, the Prosperity Now Policy team is renewing our commitment to promoting federal, state and local policies that implement bold systemic solutions to end racial and economic injustice.
Across our organization, we envision an economy that is just, fair and free from structural racism. We center those individuals and communities who have been historically excluded from economic prosperity and champion bold and impactful policy solutions.
For far too long, changes to individual behavior have been at the core of conversations on improving the financial well-being and economic security of individuals and families across the country. However, the truth is that individual behavior cannot fix a system built only to help the fortunate few. Now is the time to truly center people of color, folks with low incomes and other disenfranchised communities to create genuine change and systemic policy solutions.
Together, our policy team will dedicate our efforts in 2023 to policies in these key priorities:
- Increase Stable and Affordable Housing Opportunities
- Create an Equitable Tax System
- Ensure Universal Financial Stability
- Improve Opportunities to Start and Grow Businesses
- Promote Good Jobs with Livable Incomes and Dignified Benefits
- Protect Households from Predatory Services and Reduce Debt
Combined, these policies demonstrate the robust changes needed to build an economy that works for everyone. The intersection of these issues and the many others left unnamed impact people’s everyday lives across the country. We also recognize that no single policy is enough to enact the systemic and holistic changes needed to address every issue that touches all of our lives. As we commit ourselves to this work, we center Black, brown, indigenous and all people of color who are most impacted by these policies and continually aim to advance racial economic justice. We look to the work ahead and are full of persistence, hope and commitment to advancing a progressive policy agenda that uplifts families and communities across the country.
