Rep. Maxine Waters [D-Calif.], the chairwoman of the House Financial Services Committee, yesterday announced the representatives who will chair the committee’s six subcommittees.
Of most interest to the accounts receivable management industry is likely the Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Financial Institutions. That subcommittee will be chaired by Rep. Ed Perlmutter [D-Colo.]. Rep. Perlmutter has been in Congress since 2007 and has served on the Financial Services Committee since that time. In the previous Congressional Session, Rep. Perlmutter served on the committee’s Oversight and Investigations subcommittee and National Security, International Development, and Monetary Policy subcommittee.
“I look forward to serving as Chair of the Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Financial Institutions and appreciate the support of my colleagues in this role,” said Rep. Perlmutter, in a statement. “In the 117th Congress, the Subcommittee will play an important role in supporting the recovery of hardworking families and small businesses, monitoring the safety and soundness of financial institutions, and creating jobs as we build back our economy in the wake of the pandemic.”
Join Rep. Perlmutter on the consumer protection subcommittee are:
- Rep. Ayanna Pressley [D-Mass.]
- Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez [D-N.Y.]
- Rep. Gregory W. Meeks [D-N.Y.]
- Rep. David Scott [D-Ga.]
- Rep. Bill Foster [D-Ill.]
- Rep. Al Lawson [D-Fla.]
- Rep. Michael San Nicolas [D-Guam]
- Rep. Sean Casten [D-Ill.]
- Rep. Ritchie Torres [D-N.Y.]
- Rep. Brad Sherman [D-Calif.]
- Rep. Al Green [D-Texas]
- Rep. Juan Vargas [D-Calif.]
Interestingly enough, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez [D-N.Y.] will not serve on the consumer protection subcommittee during this Congressional session, nor will Rep. Katie Porter [D-Calif.], who was considered to be a candidate to be the next director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Other subcommittee assignments are as follows:
- Rep. Brad Sherman will chair the Subcommittee on Investor Protection, Entrepreneurship and Capital Markets
- Rep. Emanuel Cleaver [D-Mo.] will chair the Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development and Insurance
- Rep. Jim Himes [D-Conn.] will chair the Subcommittee on National Security, International Development and Monetary Policy
- Rep. Joyce Beatty [D-Ohio] will chair the Subcommittee on Diversity and Inclusion
- Rep. Al Green will chair the Subcommittee on Oversight & Investigations
