JUDGE RULES PLAINTIFF LACKS STANDING IN HUNSTEIN COPYCAT CASE, REMANDS IT BACK TO STATE COURT
- This is one of those cases where I feel like I need to make the “I’m not a lawyer” disclaimer because, to me, this looks like one of those “good news, bad news” type of cases, but there might be sides to this that I am not seeing. A District Court judge in Illinois has ruled that a plaintiff in a Hunstein copycat case does not have standing to sue — the good news — so he has remanded the case back to state court where it was originally filed — the bad news.
OHIO ANTI-ROBOCALL BILL SIGNED INTO LAW
- Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has signed a bill into law that criminalizes spoofing of phone numbers while also giving the state Attorney General the power to prosecute cases in state court as well as federal court, and requires entities that have Caller ID’s that identify them as “unknown” or “blocked” to leave voicemail messages identifying their true identity.
ENCORE CAPITAL SURVEY DETAILS NEGATIVE FINANCIAL OUTLOOK FOR CONSUMERS
- The COVID-19 pandemic has turned more Americans pessimistic about their financial futures, while more than one-quarter of consumers feel their financial situations are worse now than they were about a year ago, according to a report released by Encore Capital Group, which surveyed its customers both here in the United States and in the United Kingdom.
CFPB RELEASES DRAFT OF STRATEGIC PLAN
- When a football player is traded from one team to another or released, one of the first things that the team asks for is the copy of the player’s playbook, which details all of the plays that the team uses during the course of a game. The playbook is a roadmap that, if an opponent were to find it, could significantly help them win the game. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, for all intents and purposes, has released its playbook, in form of a draft Strategic Plan for the next four years. The document outlines its priorities, goals, and objectives while also providing details about how it plans to meet those targets.
