COLLECTOR ACCUSED OF VIOLATING REG F, FDCPA BY FURNISHING INFO ABOUT PLAINTIFF’S FATHER ON PLAINTIFF’S CREDIT REPORT
- A defendant is being accused of violating the debt parking provisions of Regulation F and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act because it allegedly furnished information about an unpaid debt to the credit reporting agencies that was owed by the father of the plaintiff and not the plaintiff himself, even after the defendant was allegedly notified of the issue.

DATA BREACH AT WASH. COLLECTION AGENCY IMPACTS 3.7M CONSUMERS
- A Washington-based collection agency has reported a data breach to the Attorney General of Maine after being the target of a ransomware attack last year that compromised the personal information of more than 3 million people, according to published reports. Attorneys have already started looking for individuals whose information may have been part of the breach as a precursor to filing class-action lawsuits against the company.

JUDGE GRANTS MSJ FOR DEFENDANT IN FDCPA CASE OVER CEASE COMMUNICATIONS REQUEST
- In a case that was defended by Cooper Walker at Frost Echols, a District Court judge in Texas has granted a defendant’s motion for summary judgment in a Fair Debt Collection Practices Act case after the plaintiff admitted during a deposition that he never asked the defendant to stop calling him — even though that’s what he alleged in his complaint — while also admonishing the plaintiff’s attorney “to do better” after the plaintiff’s testimony came to light.

SUPREME COURT TO HEAR ARGUMENTS IN STUDENT LOAN DEBT CANCELLATION PLAN CASE
- The Supreme Court yesterday agreed to hear arguments this term in a lawsuit over the Biden administrations plan to cancel up to $20,000 of student loan debt, while another appeals court issued a ruling upheld a lower court’s decision to temporarily halt the program, after 26 million individuals had applied for loan forgiveness.
